Book the best hotel and flight deals to Tokyo with Japan Airline Vacations and unlock the mysteries of Japan’s capital city! Lose yourself in the bustling streets packed with local restaurants, and enjoy exciting adventures unlike any other.

How to Travel Around Tokyo

Tokyo is vast and busy, but its efficient public transport makes light work of travel. For seamless journeys, buy an IC card (such as SUICA or PASMO) which works on all of Tokyo’s subway lines, buses and city trains.

Tokyo has two major airports. To reach central Tokyo from Haneda Airport (HND), take the Tokyo Monorail or the Keikyu Railway train. If you’re travelling from Narita Airport (NRT), hop on the JR Narita Express (NEX) – the journey takes about an hour.

Seasonal Event Information

Travel to Tokyo at any time of year and enjoy its culturally rich events

  • In spring, Tokyo’s Ueno Park turns into a pink paradise during the Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival.
  • Experience Tokyo fireworks festivals during the summer. An important Japanese tradition, when locals and tourists gather in parks and venues to watch the beautiful displays. During summer you can also attend one of the three most famous Tokyo Shrine festivals such as the Sanno Festival. On even-numbered years a huge parade winds through the streets of Tokyo during nine hours.
  • To visit the Tokyo Ramen Festa and enjoy a delicious Japanese meal of noodles, travel in autumn!
  • The many spectacular winter illuminations mostly start in November and run to March, and the long nights give you ample time to enjoy the displays. Each one is unique, so visiting only one may not be enough!

Climate in Tokyo

Book your flight deals to Tokyo in winter to experience a typical sunny winter. It can still get quite cold, however, so it’s ideal to pack some thermal shirts and a warm coat. Summers can be both hot and rainy. Wear short-sleeved t-shirts and airy trousers, and always remember to pack an umbrella! Mid-June and July can be very rainy. August is the hottest month.
